At the start of my thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail, I painted with watercolors as a way to stay present and slow down in order to gradually build my fitness. This plein-air painting was the first I created on my journey. It showcases the vibrant, rolling hills off Kittatinny Ridge in New Jersey in late June. The original painting traveled with me in my backpack for hundreds of miles until I could send it home with a stack of other paintings. Its imperfections reflect this journey--Kittatinny Ridge Print embodies the beautiful yet unrelenting nature of backpacking for months on end. It was originally created on a 3.5" x 4"-piece of watercolor paper with a paint set that was the size of the palm of my hand. Printed on thick matte paper.
